Interesting. It might indeed have something to do with that. Though traffic must be some part of it, because I'm running google analytics on the site as well, and yesterday had a huge traffic spike for the site (and this page in particular). Still, huge for me should not necessarily translate to huge over all of LJ, so like you said there is probably more to it.
