Yeah, something about Harry and Draco really works with this trope. I think being able to use magical means of disguise must make it a fun playground for authors.
Now that I think about it, despite what I wrote in the opening paragraph, I wonder just how common having *both* protagonists hiding their identities actually is in non-HP fanfics. Indeed, tvtropes calls this 'Loves My Alter Ego' because it almost always involves the Clark Kent/Superman dichotomy rather than two people both in disguise. I wonder if the double disguise version is more unique to HP?
I suppose the anonymous pen pal variant could work in other fandoms, but I didn't really see that discussed on tvtropes or fanlore.
