Do you think that there are more fests now that are sex-focused, that might have siphoned off the more explicit writing? I don't have a sense of overall fests.
I do know that I myself don't read or write as much explicit sex now - the initial excitement/challenge of discovering that has lessened and I'm usually more interested in other parts of the story, unless the sex scenes are really integral to the plot and characterization or really deftly written. I have heard a few other people say "I used to only read NC-17 but now I often skim the sex."
