The recent

hd_erised fic The Claiming of Grimmauld Place involves a sentient!Grimmauld Place as a plot device. Enjoyment of this fic inspired several people on the Drarry Discord server to come up with a list of fics with similar themes.

hd_remix fest again this year. The

hd_remix fest is one of my favorites in the fandom - I love the idea of authors writing fanfic of other fanfic. Here are some recs from the fest:

This was such a great remix! I definitely loved seeing the Harry/Draco side of this story, and the author perfectly wove in all the happenings in the original and showed us how they got there, and how the misunderstandings could multiply. So entertaining!
Everything is super cute and fun, (even the summary which really sums it all up perfectly!) and we see all of the characters haplessly dancing around what they each really want. But the best part is the kiss, oh! their kiss is SO HOT. Even though the sex is offscreen, the UST absolutely sizzles.
And the banter is top notch too :)

I also really appreciated that this remix introduced me to the original story by persephoneapple which I hadn't read before, and was a great find.

I enjoyed this so much! Very fun and amusingly sexy. And the author really captured the feeling of the type of scatterbrained-sex-addled thoughts a 19-year-old might have, and how they don't let themselves worry too much about consequences :)
I especially enjoyed Harry and Draco's aborted argument about Antarctica, and how Harry gave in in part because of sexual frustration :) Seeing this all play out from Harry's side was particularly funny.

This remix is so in tune with the original work, and yet also adds to it in a meaningful and important way.
I loved the dream sequences, which showed the reader how lost Harry was feeling, and how the mirror was prompting him to ask the right questions - so cool!
This was just a really lovely glimpse into characters we all wanted to know more about and a great showcase into Harry's state of mind.

Concrit is welcome for this. Seriously, this is only my second fic, and I really don't mind advice on how to write better. You can send me a PM or comment below, and so long as your comments are constructive my feelings won't be hurt at all. Oh, and if I got any British-isms wrong I definitely want to know! Using language right is really important to me, so please do tell me if something is off.

Yesterday I got into a lively discussion with another tumblr user on the proper interpretation of one of Bucky's lines in Captain America: The First Avenger.

The line in question goes like this:

“Hell, no. That little guy from Brooklyn who was too dumb not to run away from a fight, I’m following him.”

The original poster thought this line was illogical, while I thought it made perfect sense.

This engendered a lot of back and forth debate!

Yesterday I posted a list of all the people I knew from the HP fandom on LJ who were participating in the Fandom Trumps Hate charity auction. While Fandom Trumps Hate is hosted on tumblr, I didn't make it clear that you don't need to be on tumblr or have a tumblr account to bid! (thanks to

pir8fancier for bringing this to my attention ♥)

So just to clarify, all the bidding takes place using a google form/spreadsheet that's not on tumblr, just linked to from there.

The links you need are found on each participant's contributor page (which I posted a list of links to yesterday). Take my page for example. If you click that link it will take you to a tumblr post with details of the auction I'm listing. There's a lot of verbiage, but the relevant thing is the two links near the bottom of the post where it says step1 and step 2 (copy pasting here for convenience):

So those are really the only links you need, and they're not associated with tumblr.

Each participant has unique links to their bidding spreadsheet and bidding forms, so you just need to be able to find those by clicking on the contributor pages in yesterday's post.

There are over 500 people offering services for the Fandom Trumps Hate auction which is awesome, if a little overwhelming! Even just looking through the "fandom: Harry Potter" tag brings up what seems like 100 pages.

But for some of those, the creators have HP as a secondary or tertiary fandom, or say that they don't write Drarry. So I decided to sift through the offerings to find people I knew.

So like everyone else, I backed up my LJ to DW. Trying out this cross-posting thing now.

So it seems like LJ "friends" = DW "circle" ? And after I ported over, I now have a bunch of open-IDs listed in my "circle". I thought that these would convert into their LJ-equivalents when people crossed over, but that doesn't seem to be happening?

Example:

oakstone730 is an LJ friend. Last night I imported everything to DW and saw her name as an openID account in my circle. This morning I saw her post about moving to DW and officially "subscribed" to her DW account. And now I've got her listed as both her DW account and her openID account in my circle. Am I doing it wrong?

Something like 10 years ago, I was rooting around in the discount bin at some video store (or maybe Walmarts - who knows?) and came across a DVD of a Special Christmas Episode of Aardman's creature comforts:

I had no idea what this was, other than being by the creators of Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run, which meant it had to be good, and it was only $1.99, so why not?

My kids were all like, "what even is this?" and I couldn't really answer, so I just said we should watch it and see. And oh my god, my husband and I were dying. Of course, back then, my kids were too little to really get it, but we all watch it together now every year, and it's so fun to see them laugh more and more the older they get.

It's even on youtube now so everyone can see it :)

No matter how cynical you might be about Christmas, I'm reasonably sure this will make you laugh. At least, so long as you enjoy hearing the "Twelve Days of Christmas" song get completely butchered and over-analyzed by random British citizens impersonated by stop-motion animals.

But trust me, it's hilarious.

I had no idea, really honestly no idea about the love meme that

lokifan hosted last month. I wasn't checking my LJ at that time, and completely missed it.

I can't believe that you kind people made a thread for me anyway, considering I hadn't been around for nearly 8 months at that point. *wants to insert shamefaced emoji but doesn't know how*

It's so very sweet and lovely that anyone took the time to do that, and I'm deeply touched and grateful. Thank you so much anonymous posters. You really made my day.

(are we supposed to comment back on the thread? or not, because it's anonymous? I want to do the right thing!)
