What is Fandom Trumps Hate?
FTH is an online auction of fanworks, with the proceeds going to charities (see list below).
Why Fandom Trumps Hate?
Because a lot of us are angry, depressed, and downright terrified by the recent election of a man who has consistently vilified/insulted/threatened women, POC, LGBTQIA, immigrants, Muslims, Jews, persons with disabilities, and pretty much everyone else. Fandom, at its best, is about building communities, and we’d like our communities to send a message of love by raising money for charities working to protect others.
How does it work?
Creators will sign up to offer their work at auction. The winner will donate their winning bid amount to one of the charities listed below, then send the creator email proof of their charitable donation. Once we know you’ve donated, the creator will get to work on your item! If you’ve seen previous auctions to benefit AO3 or Haiti, it’s kind of like that.
When is it happening?
Jan 12: Bidding opens
Jan 20: Bidding closes (and the new president is inaugurated)
Jan 31: Proof of donation due to your creator
We are not setting a specific deadline for creators to finish their work by, because that will depend greatly on the length/detail of what is bid on. If you have a specific date you would need it by, please contact the creator before you bid to see if they can accommodate that. We will, however, be keeping track of which creators have finished, and will contact those that are taking longer than most just to make sure everything is on track
