People participating in Fandom Trumps Hate

There are over 500 people offering services for the Fandom Trumps Hate auction which is awesome, if a little overwhelming! Even just looking through the "fandom: Harry Potter" tag brings up what seems like 100 pages.

But for some of those, the creators have HP as a secondary or tertiary fandom, or say that they don't write Drarry. So I decided to sift through the offerings to find people I knew.

Since I know many of you aren't on tumblr, I've compiled a list of creator names I recognized, in case you'd like to check it out. If I missed anyone or made any mistakes, I'm really sorry, just let me know!

Yeah, I think that with so many auctions going, it's possible that some people might not get bids.

But I've decided not to be concerned about it :) I'm going to donate some money no matter what, and the whole thing is a good idea that I'm happy to be participating in even if my offer isn't bid on. I'm not going to take it personally - with 500+ auctions, it's just the way things will be. I just want lots of money to be raised for good causes no matter how it happens ♥

But I also suspect that with so many offerings, people may be overwhelmed and not sure where to start, which is one of the reasons I decided to try to collect these names :)

By the way - I think it's really cool that you're offering translation! That's really unique and different from what other people are doing, and I know how hard it is to do a good translation, so I am so impressed by this!

Aw, I think your attitude is great. Even wishing for everyones' creations being bid on it can't happen. But having bid on two things myself I hope to contribute to the cause. It really doesn't matter how, just that we do. :D

Yes, translations are a lot of work. I do them regularly at work, but only in a scientific context. That's way easier than to get an atmosphere and feelings right. Anyway, if someone bids for one, I'll do my best.

It really is! I don't envy those mods at all - having to hand-code something like 700 tumblr posts and associated google spreadsheets for bidding! Even though I can think of ways that it could have been made more organized and easier for searching, I completely understand why they wouldn't have the time or energy to do that. It's amazing they managed to do what they did.

Glad you found this list useful :) I noticed that some other people have made lists too, in particular dsudis created some useful tag clouds here, which list everything.

Great question! I don't think you have to be on tumblr to bid. All the bidding takes place using a google form/spreadsheet that's not on tumblr, just linked to from there.

So let me just make sure - are you able to click on the links to the contributor pages I listed?

So take mine for example. If you click that link it will take you to a tumblr post with details of the auction I'm listing. There's a lot of verbiage, but the relevant thing is the two links near the bottom of the post where it says step1 and step 2 (copy pasting here for convenience):

Step 1: Check the bidding spreadsheet to find out what the current high bid is. (Note: It may take up to five minutes for a bid to appear.)

Step 2: Fill out the seller’s bidding form with a bid that is higher than the current high bid. If you want to make it harder for someone to outbid you, bid higher! You will NOT be notified if someone outbids you, so please bookmark this page and check frequently. You will only be notified if you are the high bidder after the auctions end.

So those are really the only links you need, and they're not associated with tumblr.

Each participant has unique links to their bidding spreadsheet and bidding forms, so you just need to be able to find those by clicking on the contributor pages above.

No, this looks like I have to be registered on tumblr to offer up something to be auctioned. Hmmm, will think about this. I have a tumblr account, but I never use it because I honestly don't understand how tumblr works. I've tried but am a Luddite. Old and set in my ways. :(

Oh yeah, you might have needed an account to sign up to offer an auction, that's true. But unfortunately the sign-ups for this particular event ended a few weeks ago. Right now we're in the bidding period, which will end on January 20.

Perhaps they'll run another event after this one, or maybe someone on LJ will decide to run a similar LJ-hosted event. That would be cool :)

And tumblr definitely has a learning curve. It's frustrating to use if you want to have community-based conversation, but it's very good if what you want to do is spread information while keeping a connection to where an idea originated from. I think it works particularly well for showcasing fanart. Not as well for fic, IMO.
