Fest recs from Slythindor100's LDWS 2015

I usually do a wrap-up rec list after a fest ends, so I figured I should do so for slythindor100's Last Drabble Writer Standing (LDWS) contest as well :) This was the first year I've voted in the contest, and it was lots of fun. It was so fascinating to see how differently all of the talented authors interpreted the prompts, and so wonderfully surprising to find out who the drabble writers had been each week.


The cool thing is that I ended up voting for a different drabble writer each of the first 5 weeks! (completely unintentionally of course, as the authors were always anonymous until after the votes were tallied) My top picks each week didn't always match the winners of each week (in fact they rarely did :), but for the record, they were:

Week 1: Happy Birthday by josephinestone
Week 2: Then and Now by birdsofshore
Week 3: the invasion by bloodisshrp
Week 4: My Sweetest Downfall by writcraft (that week's winner)
Week 5: You Are My Greatest Adventure by capitu (how was this eliminated???)

Week 7: Winning Moves by birdsofshore (that week's winner)
Week 8: Laid Bare by writcraft

Week 2 was a very strong week. I also loved:

Unspeak, Speak, Oddment, Tweak by khalulu

Congratulations to birdsofshore for being the Last Drabble Writer Standing at the end, and to all of the talented authors who contributed to the fest and made it so enjoyable ♥

P.S. I hope that the authors will also feel encouraged to post their drabbles to AO3, in whatever format they happen to prefer :)

I think I voted for someone different every time as well. I should have kept track! I need to go back and see if I can remember. I do remember that I kept voting for ones that ended up losing and felt like I was jinxing them or something. I need to go back and see how many times that happened.

Well I'm kinda crazy about keeping track :) What I tend to do during fests is create a "private" LJ entry where I keep notes on the fics, and continually update it until the fest is over and I'm ready to post. Then I C&P the HTML from the private entry into a "new" public post and post it fresh. That's what I did for this one - every week after voting I'd come back to the post and add in my choice that week so I wouldn't forget :)

But I feel you on thinking I was jinxing my favorites - it was so rare that the one I voted for ended up winning ♥

I have to add a special !private tag to them to help me find them again though. Since I don't have a paid account I can't easily search for private posts otherwise. Sometimes I have several private posts going at once :)

Same! My tag is *locked. :D I've got quite a few in there at the moment. :)

Oh, this is a good idea. I do it in word or on an excel. I'm old school? ^^

:) I do keep a database of fic data too, of course. I just use the private posts thing to pre-compose my rec lists so they're ready to go when a fest is over. That way I can keep fiddling with formatting and all so it's how I want it to be when the time comes :)

I had the most fun writing the Week 3 drabble, the socks prompt just really inspired me. I wrote 3 different drabbles that week and picked one! :D

In fact, I have been thinking of posting to Ao3 because for quite a few weeks I wrote more than one drabble and then picked one out of those. I'm just not sure on how to post.

E.T.A - Just read your post on the different formats for posting, and I'll probably go with #3. Each week had a different theme and I don't feel right clubbing them all together. And then within the work for each week, I can add separate chapters for the different versions!

And I'll be looking forward to seeing what other drabbles you came up with that you didn't use for the contest! I like your idea of using chapters to post alternate versions for the same prompt ♥

<3 Yeah, there were only two weeks where the one I voted for won - but it was often hard to choose!

ETA: actually, the good thing about that is that it shows that readers have a wide range of tastes, which is good for writers, because there's a good chance that someone out there likes to read what you like to write!

Oh yeah, it was definitely hard to choose between them! For me, I recall thinking that week 2 was the hardest. There were *so many* great drabbles that week. I don't know why, but it was what it was :)

And I agree that both readers and writers have a wide range of tastes and this is a very good thing ♥

Ah, it's a treat to see that you enjoyed some of mine! I agree totally about the voting. There was a run of weeks where the one I picked as favourite got chucked out. I started to think I was jinxing it!
