Masterlist of Capitu's my-drarry-recs (updated)

Just like last time, it's a list of all the recs posted at my_drarry_recs from when you began on 7 May 2012 on through 14 Feb 2016. That's nearly 4 years of continuous reccing.

This year's list is a little more expansive, as in addition to the original sortable fields:

I usually do a wrap-up rec list after a fest ends, so I figured I should do so for

slythindor100's Last Drabble Writer Standing (LDWS) contest as well :) This was the first year I've voted in the contest, and it was lots of fun. It was so fascinating to see how differently all of the talented authors interpreted the prompts, and so wonderfully surprising to find out who the drabble writers had been each week.

The cool thing is that I ended up voting for a different drabble writer each of the first 5 weeks! (completely unintentionally of course, as the authors were always anonymous until after the votes were tallied) My top picks each week didn't always match the winners of each week (in fact they rarely did :), but for the record, they were:

In addition to fics, there was lots of lovely art for this fest as well, and much of it seems to be by new-to-me artists. I especially enjoyed the art that accompanied O Sinners, Let's Go Down and Up in the Air above, as well as the stand-alone piece Draco Malfoy and the Temple of Runes by

Yesterday I was having a discussion with vaysh about who tops more in fanfic, Draco or Harry (link here). I was of the opinion that it seemed fairly balanced, but that was from my perspective of mostly reading recent fic. Vaysh has been reading Drarry fanfiction for much longer than me, however, and she disagreed:

"statistical evidence is very clear: There is in no way a 50:50 balance between top and bottom!Draco fanworks. For many people, bottom!Draco remains the default."

Aha, I thought, a statistical challenge! As it turns out, I have a database of Drarry fics which I can consult, so I am in position to offer an answer to this pressing question. There are nearly 1500 Drarry fics written between 2002 and 2015 for which I have information about who tops or bottoms, and according to this data, we're both right :)

Who bottoms more across all fics in all years?
Answer: Draco, clearly (point vaysh)

Has the proportion of bottom!Draco to bottom!Harry begun to balance out more in recent years?
Answer: Yes, clearly (point snowgall)

Before I get to the fancy chart and graphs, let me explain a bit where my data comes from and how reliable and/or biased it could be.

Ok, enough caveats about the data, on to the chart! I hope it is self-explanatory, because I'm not going to waste more words explaining something you can see for yourself :) Just note that I'm including fics from 2015 too, even though we're only 3 months in.

As you can see, before 2010 bottom!Draco was much more common than bottom!Harry, but since then the proportion of bottom!Draco fics has gone down, to the point that of the works I've analyzed for 2014, there's a perfect balance between the two!

Is the influence of the dracotops_harry fest part of the reason for this change? It's possible. The DTH fest began in 2011, and my data seems to date the gradual shift to 2010.

It's also true that some of the disparity could be traced to a few big-name authors who tend(ed) to prefer one dynamic over another. Here's just a few examples I know of authors who seemed to prefer bottom!Draco but who haven't written as much in the last few years:

ladyvader, active approx 2003 - 2010
jennavere, active approx 2004 - 2006
pir8fancier, active approx 2004 - 2013
silentauror, active approx 2005 - 2009

There are many more bottom!Draco authors who are still actively writing HD, among them: enchanted_jae, oldenuf2nb, and samaelthekind.

But interestingly, I can only think of ~~one~~ long-time author who seems to prefer bottom!Harry: megyal.
(Edit: vaysh pointed out that lomonaaeren is also a bottom!Harry author. My bad!)

I can't write, so I made you a spreadsheet. (You already knew I was doing this as you got an advanced look a few weeks back, but we'll just pretend this is a surprise :)

This is a list of all the recs posted at my_drarry_recs from 7 May 2012 through 24 Feb 2015. That's nearly 3 years of continuous reccing.

As you can see, there are three fields: the URL to the post at my_drarry_recs, the author's name, and the title of the fic. You can toggle between 3 views depending on which column you want to sort by.

Note that whenever a work and its sequel were recced in the same post (e.g. The Corruption Sequence by beren_writes), I split that into two (or more) separate records in the sheet . So there are more entries in this sheet than there are individual recs posted at my-drarry-recs.

Some stats and trivia for fun:

The first rec posted is for Damned If You Do by tigersilver, which was posted on 7 May 2012
The total number of rec posts made (some of which include more than one fic) = 1,247
The total number of fics recced so far (when counting sequels as separate fics) = 1,291
The most frequently recced author is dysonrules with 34 posts = 38 fics
The shortest fic recced is Harry's Whore by enchanted_jae at 1,170 words

The oldest fic recced (that I can accurately date) is Cure for the Flu by ivyblossom, published 16 Dec 2002
